Cataract & Lasik Center of Utah Provides Free Cataract Surgery

Cataract & Lasik Center of Utah is participating in Mission Cataract USA and offers cataract surgery at no cost to those in financial need.

Orem, UT August 6, 2008 - Dr. Jamie M. Monroe of the Cataract and Lasik Center of Utah has teamed with Mission Cataract USA to provide free cataract surgery for members of their local community with no insurance or means to pay for the needed surgery. After offering cataract screenings at no charge during the month of July, seven patients qualified for this vision freeing procedure and will be seeing clearly once again. The surgeries will be performed Saturday, August 9th beginning at 8:00 a.m. at their office located at 175 North 400 West in Orem. The Cataract & Lasik Center of Utah has also been able to help some patients who didn't meet the financial requirements for free surgery to qualify for alternate coverage for these expenses.

An estimated 15 million people in the world are blinded by cataracts. Thousands of those people live in the United States and lack Medicare, Medicaid, third-party insurance or any other means to pay for cataract surgery. "We are helping those in our community who experience impaired vision from cataracts and have no financial means to undergo the life-altering surgery," says Dr. Monroe.

All of the medical supplies have been donated by colleagues at Alcon, Advanced Medical Optics, B-D Blades, and Cardinal, and the staff at the Cataract & Lasik Center of Utah will be donating their time. Several businesses in the area are also donating, such as lunches from Apple Spice Junction, brownies from Shirley's Bakery and fruit and vegetable trays from Smiths.
